Questions we hear

What is Sovereign?

Sovereign is autonomy software for drones from Modern Intelligence. It runs on the aircraft, sees what's in the camera, and acts. It handles edge automatic target recognition (ATR) and terminal guidance on the small computer already flying with the drone.

What does edge ATR mean?

ATR stands for automatic target recognition: software that spots, labels, and keeps track of objects in live camera video. Edge means it runs right on the drone, so results arrive in milliseconds.

What is terminal guidance?

Terminal guidance is the last stage of a flight, when the aircraft steers itself to its selected target. Sovereign guides that final approach using what the camera sees.

What can Sovereign recognize?

On land: people, vehicles, and fixed sites. At sea: vessels, including dark and non-AIS vessels (AIS is the automatic identification signal ships use), plus ship-hull identification from cameras. In the air: hostile small UAS (unmanned aircraft systems).

What hardware does Sovereign run on?

Sovereign runs on small onboard compute such as ModalAI VOXL 2 (Qualcomm RB5), NVIDIA Jetson Orin, Raspberry Pi 5 with Hailo, and Qualcomm Dragonwing. The same software runs on small tactical drones, FPV-class (first-person view) drones, one-way attack airframes, and camera-equipped uncrewed underwater vehicles (UUVs).

How does Sovereign connect to my drone?

Sovereign is platform-agnostic and built to the modular open systems approach (MOSA), with an open API. It connects to your existing flight controller over MAVLink, the common drone control protocol, and over Ethernet.

Where do Sovereign's tracks go?

Sovereign publishes tracks as Cursor on Target (a standard message for a target's location) or GeoJSON into TAK (Team Awareness Kit) or another common operating picture, or into the autonomy stack you already use. Weapons pairing sits downstream.

Does Sovereign work when GPS or radio links are contested?

Yes. Sovereign runs onboard the aircraft and works from the camera feed, so it keeps working in GPS-denied, contested GPS, and radio-denied environments.
