# Modern Intelligence

> Modern Intelligence builds Sovereign, autonomy software for drones that runs on the aircraft, sees what's in the camera, and acts.

Modern Intelligence, Inc. is based in Austin, Texas, and was founded in 2020. Sovereign provides edge automatic target recognition (ATR) and terminal guidance on small onboard compute such as ModalAI VOXL 2 (Qualcomm RB5), NVIDIA Jetson Orin, and Raspberry Pi 5 with Hailo. ATR is software that spots, labels, and keeps track of objects in live camera video. Terminal guidance is the final approach, when the aircraft steers itself to a selected target using what the camera sees. Sovereign is platform-agnostic, built to the modular open systems approach (MOSA) with an open API, and connects to existing flight controllers over MAVLink (the common drone control protocol) and Ethernet. On land, Sovereign recognizes people, vehicles, and fixed sites. At sea, it recognizes vessels, including dark and non-AIS vessels (AIS is the automatic identification signal ships use), plus ship-hull identification from cameras. In the air, it recognizes hostile small UAS (unmanned aircraft systems). Sovereign publishes tracks as Cursor on Target (a standard message for a target's location) or GeoJSON into TAK (Team Awareness Kit) and other common operating pictures. Weapons pairing sits downstream. Sovereign keeps working in GPS-denied, contested GPS, and radio-denied environments.
